How to Keep Your Skin Healthy On Your Caribbean Vacation
While you’re quenching your thirst for adventure and appeasing your appetite for sun and sand on your Caribbean vacation, it's important not to overlook the needs of your skin. The balmy breezes of Providenciales' Grace Bay beach provide mega doses of Vitamin "Sea" and of course an abundance of happiness-inducing Vitamin D. However, your skin acts as the conduit for absorbing and converting the sunshine vitamin into several body and mind benefitting factors, so keeping your skin healthy in the Caribbean sunshine should be at the top of your healthy habits list.
How To Stay Healthy In Under the Caribbean Sun
With an average temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius) and cooling easterly trade winds, the Turks and Caicos Islands are an ideal piece of paradise for sunbathing, while offering a superb selection of outdoor adventures. But before you head outdoors to enjoy your island paradise, remember a few preventative measures to make sure your sun time is a sensational time.
Apply an effective sunscreen, one that is broad spectrum to protect against both UVA and UVB light, with at least a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. Be sure to allow 20 minutes before you head out of your suite.
Sunglasses accentuate your features and create a air of mystery, but when it comes to sun care, choose a good pair of sunglasses which maximize coverage over your eyes. A good pair of sunglasses will help reduce glare and cut down on UV rays.
Flaunt a hat! Choose a wide brim hat that looks chic while giving your face and neck excellent protection from those rays. If you are out and about, and fairly active, a fitted cap with a bill may be just the solution.
Sun exposure at midday, usually between 10 am and 3pm can be particularly harmful. Why not use this time to relax in one of the luxurious sun pods on Grace Bay beach or take an afternoon nap in your air conditioned suite. The Courtyard Shops, fitness centre and on-site restaurants are excellent places to have fun while staying protected.
Reapply sunscreen after swimming or strenuous activity. Sweat and sea water will wash your sunscreen away leaving you vulnerable, so be diligent about re-applying.
After your day in the sun, take the time to wash off your sunscreen and follow up with a hydrating moisturizer to your skin.
Consider a moonbathing experience. The Palms Turks and Caicos offers an exquisite beachfront moonbathing experience under the glow of twinkling stars. This experience comes with after dinner cocktails, mini massage treatments and all the moon exposure you can handle. stand up paddleboarding on a Caribbean vacation

Snorkel Coral Gardens Also known as Bight Reef, the Coral Gardens snorkeling area is just a short walk down the beach from our resort. Since the depth of the water ranges from 3 to 16 feet, coral gardens is perfect for families and is one of the most popular snorkeling areas in Providenciales. snorkeling grace bay beach The reef extends 350 feet out from Grace Bay beach and tends to have a large number of tame fish, as well as sea turtles, eagle rays and spiny lobsters. 2. Go Visit the National Environmental Centre and Play at Bight Park Located adjacent to the Bight Reef and Grace Bay Beach, the National Environmental Centre includes exhibits that explain the natural and cultural history of the Turks and Caicos. There is no entrance fee and it's a great way to learn more about the islands. There is also a Children's Park at the Bight with slides and swings, and a place to buy refreshments. 3. Visit Potcake Place ‘Potcake’ is the name given to the dogs of the Turks and Caicos Islands and the nearby Bahamas archipelago. The name came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to their dogs. [caption id="attachment_1103" align="aligncenter" width="500"]potcake dog A rescued potcake dog. Photo by Flickr user bookfinch. (CC BY 2.0)[/caption] Potcakes have become popular pets on Providenciales. However, like in many parts of North America, spaying and neutering has not been enough to prevent overpopulation. In response, Potcake Place is a charity on Providenciales that has been established to help stray potcake dogs on Providenciales. If you want to play with or walk a potcake, head over the Potcake Place during your stay. It's located in Saltmills Plaza in the Grace Bay area of Providenciales. 4. Go Horseback Riding Provo Ponies is a small and popular riding stable located quite close to The Palms resort. The stable leads popular horseback tours right on the beach in a quiet and wild part of Providenciales. Depending on the tide, the pony rides go right out into the shallow turquoise water, presenting a tremendous view of the Caicos Bight to the south. It makes for a memorable experience. 5. Spend an Afternoon at the Pool One of the great things about family vacations is that you don't have to do anything if you don't want to. You don't even have to think of ways to entertain your children, thanks to our beautiful pool. Plan an afternoon at the pool. Sip drinks while your children enjoy themselves. 6. Plan a Family Dinner Most of our suites at The Palms resort include a full kitchen. And, thanks to several full-service supermarkets close by, this means you can plan a wonderful family dinner. The Palms also offers a personal chef service for in-suite dining. 7. Visit Iguana Island Little Water Cay (aka "Iguana Island") is a pleasant day trip from The Palms resort. The island gets its name from the colony of friendly rock iguanas that live there. The iguanas are used to human visitors and often rush over to greet guests. They're very friendly, and, as herbivores, are perfectly harmless. Contact our concierge for more information about this delightful family day trip from Providenciales. 8. Take a Trip to the Conch Farm Billed as the "world's only farm devoted to cultivating conches", the Caicos Conch Farm is another family-friendly activity near our resort. Queen Conch is a local delicacy and staple food enjoyed by many locals. It's also a key export from the Turks and Caicos. The thirty-minute tour of the Conch Farm provides a good overview of the life cycle of the conch, and also provides lessons about ecology and environmental sustainability. 9. Turks and Caicos Events for 2017
There is no shortage of Turks and Caicos events and activities occurring throughout the year. Many of our events are great for families, and provide a good opportunity to meet and get to know the local residents of islands. Here are a few of the major events in Turks and Caicos. We've starting with summer 2017 events and look forward to adding fall and winter events as they are finalized. Events in Spring and Summer 2017 50th Annual Big South Regatta When: May 25-May 28, 2017 Taking place on South Caicos, aka the "Big South", this annual regatta features a variety of sailboat races and exhibitions. The center of the regatta is Cockburn Harbor. Now just a sleepy and picturesque harbor town, at one time Cockburn Harbor in South Caicos was the commercial hub of the islands. Everyone from Queen Elizabeth to fearsome pirates have passed through this town, thanks to its strong connection to the sea and sailing. This event is for adventurers, and requires at least an overnight stay away from The Palms resort. See Turks and Caicos Tourism for more information. 7th Annual “Race for the Conch” Eco-SeaSwim When: July 1, 2017, 9:30am This open-water race happens right here off Grace Bay Beach, close to The Palms resort.
