For event info: https://www.facebook.com/ThePalmsTC/ Turks and Caicos New Year's at The Palms Turks and Caicos New Year’s Festivals Festivals and social events are held throughout the year in the Turks and Caicos Islands to mark special days, cultural milestones and historical events. New Year’s Eve, or “Old Year’s Night”, is an important time to reflect on the past twelve months and to greet the year ahead, and many island churches hold special services to honour this time. But locals also prepare for another significant event called Junkanoo that takes place as soon as the clock strikes midnight. The festival takes its roots from the time of slavery and marks the time around Christmas when slaves were given a day off to celebrate with their loved ones. Islanders dress in elaborate handmade costumes and masks and gather along the streets of Grace Bay. The music in the air is rake and scrape, a unique, delightful Caicos sound produced by a blend of goat skin drums, guitars and carpenter saws. Like a Caribbean Mardi Gras, Junkanoo ushers in the New Year with colour, energy and joy. Fortunately however, reefs, dive sites and snorkeling areas saw limited damage, and beach erosion wasn’t extensive. Hurricane Irma and Maria roared in September 2017, but Turks and Caicos endured, recovered, and today, remains a top vacation destination boasting breathtakingly beautiful water and world class beaches. Post hurricane recovery in the islands is a testament to the amazing resilience of this country and its people. Success can be attributed to local government and utility company response as well as international assistance, but it is also due in large part to the efforts and commitment showcased by numerous volunteer groups and individuals. The Palms Hurricane Response Well Implemented A favorite destination for an intimate Caribbean vacation The Palms Turks and Caicos hurricane policy offers a no-hassle, 100% refund policy, in the event of a hurricane threat. If the threat of a hurricane prevents travel to Providenciales, or otherwise interferes with your vacation, the resort will offer a 100% refund of any unused portion of the resort stay, no questions asked. Prior to the impending hurricane events, the local Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) works with the government to assist the country with extensive preparations, provide media communication, and also provide post hurricane assessment and planning. As well, construction standards at The Palms Turks and Caicos created a safer environment for guests and staff members. Damage to the resort could have been so much more extensive, but tight construction codes, particularly in the Grace Bay area, meant that our buildings were constructed to withstand tremendous force. Category 5 Hurricane Irma on September 17, 2017 brought with it powerful winds approaching 185 mph and waves as high as 20 feet pounding the islands. If that wasn’t enough heard from nature, Hurricane Maria travelled through the region just off Grand Turk a week later bringing storm surge and high winds. Approximately half of the Turks and Caicos Islands are low elevation saline flats and wetlands with the rest of the islands very low elevation as well. These two hurricanes brought a tremendous storm surge resulting in significant water damage to buildings including island hotels and the main airport. Almost 1300 utility poles were downed, many structures incurred roof damage, and the Port of Turks and Caicos suffered extensive damage. The massive wake of Hurricane Irma impacted many islands in the Caribbean, but the Turks and Caicos made one of the fastest recoveries. The Providenciales International Airport was able to re-open quickly and receive flights. Fortis, the local utility supplier, with help from various North American crews, was able to respond quickly and managed to recover electrical service to the islands. The Turks and Caicos Port Authority worked diligently to address damages, and by November 2017, the port was fully operational for cruise sailings. Local Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) worked with donor groups to bring about rebuilding and recovery. Dedicated teams at island resorts and businesses worked tirelessly to restore and clean up facilities and grounds so that operations could be resumed as quickly as possible. The Palms Resort Recognized as Best-All Suite Hotel in Caribbean
The Palms Turks and Caicos night lit pool The Palms Resort has been named the Caribbean’s Leading All Suite Hotel 2018 by the recent World Travel Awards’ Caribbean & North America Gala Ceremony. This comes after Parallel23, a restaurant at the resort, received recognition from Wine Spectator magazine in 2018. palms turks and caicos award The World Travel Awards acknowledges, rewards and celebrates excellence in travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Today, the World Travel Awards are recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence. Turks and Caicos Frequently Wins Awards The Turks and Caicos regularly receives recognition as a top vacation destination. In 2018, TripAdvisor named Grace Bay as the world's best beach. In 2015, Providenciales was named the world's best island. About The Palms Turks and Caicos The Palms fronts the white sand beaches of Grace Bay, a glorious jewel set amid 12 acres of fragrant, landscaped gardens. Its five buildings form a semi-circle around a multi-million dollar infinity pool, and the pool setting boasts a swim-up bar and restaurant. Not to be overshadowed by the impressive colonial lodging structures is The Palms' 25,000 square-foot-spa, complete with reflecting pools and serene gardens, and featuring a long canal that fans out into eight coral-stone fronds, each housing a treatment room. The inspiration for The Palms comes from the designs of Oliver Messel, who, in the early '60's was noted for his use of the materials and traditions of island architecture on his adopted island of Barbados. Messel created a mix of baroque and classical design using features such as slender Greek columns, flattened arches, and white-on-white interiors. The Palms pays homage to Messel with its use of cool Barbadian coral stone in its five buildings, the incorporation of open, island-inspired architecture, and by naming its magnificent ballroom after him.

Why Celebrities Love to Visit Turks and Caicos
Imagine walking down Grace Bay beach, celebrated as one of the best beaches in the world. As you enjoy the sand at your feet, you see a familiar face in the distance. Wait... could it be? It is! It's a global superstar, right here on the white sands of Grace Bay beach. Many celebrities travel to the island to enjoy the pristine sands and turquoise waters Turks and Caicos has to offer. Here are few reasons why big stars such as Bruce Willis, Kylie Jenner, and “Posh and Becks” (David and Victoria Beckham) flock to Turks and Caicos. View this post on Instagram Happy New Year!!! X kisses!! ✨ A post shared by Victoria Beckham (@victoriabeckham) on Dec 31, 2017 at 1:31pm PST Reason #1: To Enjoy a Little Peace and Quiet Turks and Caicos is the perfect place for getting some much needed time away from the public eye. The island is a lesser-known part of the Caribbean, making it perfect for a private getaway. Also, resorts such as the Palms strive to offer the best of the beach within the comforts of our luxury hotel suites. View this post on Instagram 💙 A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on Aug 12, 2016 at 12:44pm PDT Wake up a beautiful view of the beach every morning. Avoid the crowds and get that perfect tan as you sunbathe in on your own private terrace. Hire a private charter and tour the more secluded areas of the island. Treat yourself to an intimate dinner prepared by a private chef. When you’re a celebrity, the opportunities for privacy and pampering are endless. Reason #2: It’s Warm Year Round It’s always a good time to visit the island for fun in the sun. The island’s tropical climate provides warm weather year-round. The island is warmer in months of May through October and cooler from December to March. View this post on Instagram Behind the Scenes Sports Illustrated 2017 Parrot Cay Turks and Caicos. Turks and Caicos is home to docile nurse sharks. Whether you are new to diving or are seasoned pro, there are charters that can help you get up close and personal with these easy going sharks.
